Liam Rosenior agrees deal to join Hull City as manager

Former Hull City player Liam Rosenior has verbally agreed to become the Championship club’s new manager.

Rosenior most recently took interim charge of Derby County after Wayne Rooney left in the summer following the club’s relegation to League One.

The 38-year-old left Pride Park last month when Paul Warne was named Rooney’s permanent successor but is now set to return to East Yorkshire to take up his first full-time managerial role.

A contract has not yet been signed but no problems are anticipated and Rosenior, who watched Hull’s recent win at Rotherham from the stands, is expected at the MKM Stadium on Tuesday night when Middlesbrough are the visitors.

Rosenior, who had been first-team coach and assistant manager at Derby, made almost 150 appearances for Hull between 2010 and 2015. He helped Hull win promotion to the Premier League in 2013 and was part of the team which reached the FA Cup final in 2014.

He had previously been in the running for jobs at Blackpool and West Brom before those positions were filled.

Hull had been searching for a new head coach since sacking Shota Arveladze in September.

The club had previously held talks with former Olympiacos boss Pedro Martins but have now turned to Rosenior.

Hull chairman Acun Ilicali oversaw an extensive recruitment drive this summer after taking over the club earlier this year.

But they currently sit just one place above the 19th position they finished last season.
