The border between De Beauvoir Town and Haggerston has been named some of the best places to live in the UK, but its super cool neighbour has been missed off the list. The annual Sunday Times guide has determined the North East London area as one of the top spot in the capital for those looking to move.
Judges praised the edges of Hackney for its secluded conservation area, stunning property portfolio, pedestrianisation, celebrity-loved culinary offerings, impressive schools and connectivity to the city. Meanwhile, the nearby Hackney Wick, famed for being one of the trendiest areas of the city, was snubbed and not mentioned in the list.
Located on the borders of Islington, De Beauvoir Town shares the N1 postcode but is considered to be part of the Hackney borough with all the style that East London has to offer. Meanwhile, Haggerston is identified by the E8 address, with the two only separated by Kingsland Road.

Given their proximity it's no surprise that the two are often bookmarked with each other, but their distinctive characters make them unique in their own right. De Beauvoir Town is famed as a conservation area where the family Benyon Estate still owns more than 370 homes.
The streets are largely closed off to traffic making for a quieter pace of life. While it has small green spaces in the way of the Rose Garden, a square lined with the flowers of love, residents are known to visit nearby Haggerston for natures delights.

Haggerston Park is an award-winning plot, perfect for any day out. It's home to the charming Hackney City Farm, a free yard with resident animals as well as the acclaimed café Frizzante where you can pick up fresh produce from the shop or enjoy a seasonal bite.
Food and drink is one of the many USP's of the area with swathes of independent eateries cropping up across the neighbouring villages. In De Beauvoir, Southgate Road is the epicentre for delightful food and drink, with the likes of Keira Knightly branding the Towpath café the best in London.
There's plenty in the way of variety too with Japanese cuisines available at Toconoco and heartier meals at the De Beavoir Arms. It's a similar bounty in Haggerston but the village is probably better known for its drinking scene with a plethora of up-market bars or quintessential pubs providing a hideout for any and everyone.

Another must is spend a lazy morning in Broadway Market to take in the sights and smells that exist just moments away from Haggerston station. Outside of market hours on a Saturday the street is a buzz with people enjoying quirky coffee houses.
Perhaps one of the most noteworthy features of both areas is their property. Fine period houses line the streets of De Beauvoir Town while Haggerston also has warehouse conversions and new blocks of flats.
The Sunday Times guide notes: "Period two-bedders in De Beauvoir Town start at about £600,000, but allow more than double that budget for a three-bedroom terraced house on Englefield Road. The bigger properties start from £2 million. In Haggerston, flats with views of the Regent’s Canal or the Kingsland Basin sell for £400,000-£750,000.."
How to get there
Haggerston benefits from an Overground station, which serves both areas. Essex Road station is also less than a 20-minute walk away for the western parts of De Beauvoir Town.
